reading books before bed.

spending the weekend at tim's parents cabin. we went to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary, but brought the little one with us, well, 'cause neither of us are ready to leave her again for a night away! maybe in twenty years. ;)

violet's new favorite toy.

seriously, this kid is happiest with empty boxes and milk cartons. she was running around in her diaper after trying on her halloween costume (we found one with a head covering that doesn't make her cry!) and she spotted this box. she soon discovered how much fun it was to sit inside of.

Violet kept going to the door today, asking me to go outside. i kept putting her off, 'cause it's rainy out.

finally, i figured "heck, she's an oregonian! she's not going to melt." so we both got bundled up and went outside.

violet was deliriously happy watching raindrops sending little ripples out into puddles outside our door.

childhood is so magical. so many firsts! everything is brand new and waiting to be discovered.

Our computer isn't working properly, so we're going to bring it in to the Apple store tonight for maintenance.  So no pictures for a while!  I'll still be taking them, and will post them when we're back up and running, hopefully not too long after Violet's birthday.

It's amazing to watch Violet master new skills.  It happens so quickly!  Just two days ago, I was amazed to see her stand up without any help or any furniture to pull herself up with.   And now, just two days later, she spent the whole afternoon doing it.  She would stand, walk a few steps, fall, giggle, and get back up and do it again.  And again.  And again and again and again.  And she never got frustrated (except when her dress got in her way!)  The whole time, she was giggly and happy and oh so proud that she was learning how to walk.  Here are a few pictures of her practicing.  Tim was outside cleaning up his bike (just got it last night off of craigslist!) and so we hung out with him for a little while.

Resting!  After all this walking, Violet was tired!  She actually just went down for a late nap.  She's a very sleepy, worn out toddler.

so close!

trillium lake

We went for a hike today with our friend Nicole, who is visiting from New York.

Violet may just be walking soon!

Last night, she took one tiny step. She's been standing for a couple of weeks now. She'll stand until her legs give out, usually no longer than ten seconds. Sometimes she loses her balances and topples over. Last night though, she stood and I held my hands out, motioning her toward me. And she took a step! It was tiny, purposeful, perfect. And then she tumbled down. It was beautiful though. It made my stomach knot up. I can't believe our little girl will soon be toddling around.

This all goes so quickly. I can hardly believe it.
